A Successful Trip
We couldn't be happier with the procedure. Everything was textbook perfect, our vet is amazing and we are happy Clara is safe, happy, comfortable, and back home for a bit of relaxation.

Here we go everyone! Sunday was the day. Clara has been in heat since the end of July and finally last Tuesday she started to leave baseline and we knew she was going to ovulate. After a little more bloodwork our wonderful team settled on a Sunday morning appointment for her AI (Artificial Insemination) procedure.

The whole things start to finish was around an hour. She was happy as can be going off with our Tech for the surgery (we chose to to surgery over other AI methods to get a better success rate). They took her back and prepped her, said she went under wonderfully and all her vitals were textbook. The entire procedure took 15-20 minutes and everything went wonderfully open to close. We also were very happy and downright over the moon about the semen samples; they were some of the best that they have seen for dogs in their practice and our team was very happy with everything and very excited when they came to update me and have me go back to see her. Clara also came out of her anesthesia quickly and happy as can be. She was very excited to see me, immediately perked up when I said her name, and was almost instantly trying to cuddle and talk to us. We had an hour ride home but she calmly sat and slept in the back with no fuss

She’s currently on bed rest with allowances to go to the office. But she is not allowed to do anything super active or stressful. I’m now finally writing this as she sleeps because I haven’t left her alone since the surgery. We’ll update you more as we go, but this means the puppy countdown has begun. If everything goes as planned we should see little pups on an ultrasound in a month and hopefully we will be welcoming a few puppies into the sundog pack early November.

P.S. For anyone more interested in the AI procedure and the technicalities of the before and after of that process I’ll likely be doing a post. I will warn now that if you aren’t into reproductive medicine or that aspect of science you may want to skip that update. Don’t worry I’ll warn you all at the top of that article.
